Absolutely. My biggest hang up with self-publishing has been a disconnect between quality and quantity. On the one hand, I think the regular practice of writing will inevitably lead to quality writing... but I don't think that necessarily means the vast quantity of writing will be worthy to be shared. And I want to respect the space people allow me to have in their inboxes.
You named it: the regularity of writing versus the regularity of publication, which aren't the same (self-publishing usually invites us to conflate them).
That's good to know, and I'm glad you enjoyed 'Lilac Light"! I've been trying to figure out how I want to approach sharing fiction via Substack. I've never done "serialized" fiction before, but many of my stories are longer than I suspect people would reasonably want to encounter in their emails. Finding a solution to that quandary is at the forefront of my mind for the coming year.
I hope the publication change in winter 2024 is something of a creative cocoon - I’m seeing more of that in writers reevaluating their work schedules.

Dan, congrats on getting your poem published! That's amazing and such an honor.
Thank you, Michelle! It was a much appreciated encouragement to be sure :)
I've been enjoying the fiction pieces you've been posting. Especially "Lilac Light"; I was just thinking about that one last night.
